Couple of days ago we got to attend a beautiful small ceremony in the Jewish Synagogue —Sha'ar HaShamayim, in downtown Cairo. It was for the Jewish new year.

It was conducted by a wonderful young lady called Alice, who is from New York but has roots in Egypt. The entire ceremony was very contemporary, inclusive and accommodating of folks who were there for the first time in a Synagogue.

The ceremony was followed by some traditional new year foods — apples dipoles in honey, pomegranates and bread
